Beginner Handstand series. Build your handstand practice step by step with this short and structured series (6 classes). You’ll start by learning how to safely cartwheel out, then progress to confident kickups at the wall. From there, you’ll develop strength and control with half tuck drills, first with support and then exploring balance. Each class is just 10 minutes — designed to help you build the foundations of a steady handstand you can grow from.
- This first class will start with a warm-up for the wrists and then teach you how to cartwheel out of a handstand. This will give you the confidence and skills to bail out as you are learning this fun skill/pose. The class is only 10 minutes, but keep practicing until you can cartwheel out confidently five times in a row before moving on to the next progressions.
- The second class in the beginner handstand series - helping you learn to kickup to the wall (back to wall). We will learn the technique for half tuck kickups, which helps you learn to handstand with a long spine (no banana back) - using your bones and joints instead of only muscular strength.
- The third class in the beginner handstand series - with my favorite drill to improve your half tuck. This drill is back to wall and helps to reinforce the knee down, so you can improve your kickup in this shape Prop: kitchen towel
- The fourth class in the beginner handstand series - shifting our focus to balance (without the kickup). This allows us to work on one part of the handstand at a time, before the complexity of putting them together. Make sure you feel comfortable with the carwheel before moving on to this class.
- The fifth class in the beginner handstand series. We're refining the kickup in this class with an important skill to prepare you to get off the wall - controlling the kickup. We're going to start to minimize momentum by reducing the swing of the top leg -- learning to float up and down with more control. We will practice this against the wall and on an elevated surface. Prop: kitchen towel
- The sixth (and final) class in the beginner handstand series. Let's put the drills together into a practice you can do regularly to build strength & balance in your handstands. This includes a full warmup before getting upside down. This is your template for your regular handstand practice. Prop: blocks kitchen towel
